Five years ago, Matt moved to Phoenix, AZ to start his life over. After spending a majority of his adolescence sick, he needed to get out of his life and into a new one.

He found one. He found a new job, a new house, a new girlfriend, and his new life began. But his new life wasn't what he hoped for.

After the tragic death of his girlfriend Candice, he felt as if the walls are closing in around him. With one step forward, others were thrown two steps back.

And then the dreams began.

Terrifying, violent, and real - images from an unknown place have plagued him for months. Each dream, they become more intense. So real, in fact, he begins to wonder if they are more than that.

Matt began tracking down the images from his dream as he began to see that they existed in reality. Following the building he kept seeing led him to Los Angeles where he soon learned that the images in his dreams were all connected.

After connecting the death of Detective Cedric Grimes to the murders at the Asgre Hun fraternity house, he was able to link the memories of one Jonas Aveinungsen to all the images from his dreams.

His dreams were the memories of Jonas. Jonas, in Matt’s mind, gave him a book of power. The very book that Jonas was murdered for. But the book had a lock on it. The only way to unlock it was to find the key. Existence hinges on this key.

Matt found Ailis when both of them were checked into a hospital. He was skeptical, at first, of the fantastical story she told him – that he was one of twelve mystical people who could control the power of the earth – but he soon followed her as they were attacked by the dark man.

Narrowly escaping death, they fled to Ireland, home of the council. There, he was “tested” by Patric, the new, self-appointed head of the council. Matt was also taught the history of the monastery and council. When he was called before the twelve to demonstrate his ability to control the power Patric informed everyone that he had summoned the dark man to the monastery to finally confront him instead of running from him. The council quickly joined hands and sent Matt four hours into the future, safe from the dark man’s attacks.

Matt escaped with his life, but the council did not.

Sometimes, the hardest thing you have to do is be yourself.

But, would you be yourself if you knew being yourself would get other people killed?

Raised in Ireland, Ailis shied away from the prophecies and lore heaped upon her. She attempted to escape her life.

But her life had a way of catching up with her.

Now, she's locked in a race against time - against other forces - to find what has been hidden for 1600 years.

After failing to find the other “nine,” Ailis is dispatched to find number ten – Sandra. Sandra, now in a mental institution, is incoherent and only reacts to a mention of the dark man. After being removed from the visitor’s area for disturbing Sandra, Ailis sets out to find out what happened to Sandra. After learning who she was from former friends and family, Ailis breaks Sandra out. Running from the cops, the two hide out in an animal shelter. While Ailis goes to look for threats, one sneaks in the backdoor – the dark man.

As the dark man kills Sandra, Ailis is blown from the wreckage of the animal shelter – it exploding as a wave of energy emits from Sandra’s body. She slams into the ground, unconscious.

Waking up in the hospital, she is drawn to Matt, believing him to be the One to lead the twelve. It’s only when she meets Matt and learns that he’s a heart transplant recipient, does she realize that he’s both the One to lead and one of the twelve.

She brings him back to the council and begins to train him how to control his powers – having hope for the first time that she may bring salvation to those around her instead of death. Her hopes are quickly dashed when the dark man’s attack kills everyone at the monastery except Ailis and Matt. Despondent, she turns to Matt for comfort. In the passion of their kiss, she’s shown a vision of the twelfth and final heart.

Molly Bar has an MD in psychiatry and thinks that she’s seen it all. She can diagnose neurosis, psychosis, or PTSD within the first twenty minutes of a session and though she may not be the best-paid psychiatrist in Arizona, she knows that she is the best there is.

But Molly’s perception of herself is drastically challenged the moment Matt walks into her office. Every time she thinks she’s getting close to the discovery of what is mentally ailing Matt, she is confronted with a new discovery that contradicts her old theory. Even the medication she prescribed seems to have an affect opposite to what she expected.

Could Molly be going crazy, or is Matt just more than she can handle?

Little is known about the dark man. For a long time he just inhabited the nightmares of Matt. But as Matt began to seek out the realities of his dreams, the dark man began to become one. He didn’t haunt just Matt alone. Both Ailis and Sandra knew of the dark man. They both feared that he was coming after them. After murdering Matt’s therapist, the dark man tracked down Sandra and killed her. He has more in mind than killing, though. Talking to Jonas in his mind, Matt learned that the dark man is after a book. A book that Jonas owned. A book that, when understood, possessed the key to all of existence. It is the dark man’s goal to end everything.

It is believed that the dark man was a child born of “all senses” – meaning all his senses were heightened to the point that he could communicate with the earth. He secluded himself from civilization and herded sheep. He learned the Earth’s secrets and how to use its power. When his sheep were brutally attacked by a group of teenagers, he turned to the earth for retribution – but it wanted nothing to do with the conflict. So, the dark man forced the earth’s power to destroy the teens. The earth reacted violently to this assault and, in return, destroyed the dark man’s herd. Hateful and bent on revenge, the dark man decided to use the knowledge the earth had given him – of its power and the twelve hearts – to destroy it.

After years of searching for the twelve, he was led to Jonas Aveinungsen. When Jonas destroyed the Book of Power, the twelve began appearing. The dark man spent the next five years hunting the twelve down. This led him to Matt and Ailis. After they escaped, he was summoned to Ireland – to the council – by Patric. Upon arriving and slaughtering most of the monastery’s inhabitants, the council activated the compound’s security system that focused all the power of the order to repel the dark man. The energy appears to have killed the dark man.

When Roger graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in business, all he had were big dreams and an optimistic outlook.

Seven years later he’s stuck working for the same small company in Arizona that he started at and he has no prospects of something new. Every day is the same for him, he gets up and goes to work, leaves the office at five and heads straight for the bar where he attempts to woo the woman of his dreams, at least for the night, and then goes home to the same emptiness that he woke up to.

Recently, however, there has been some small excitement in his humdrum schedule; his coworker Matt has come to him with some interesting questions and Roger is anxious to find out what Matt is so worked up about.

Brittany is an RN at a major hospital. She starts IVs and gives children liquid Tylenol every day; her life is routine and she is just an ordinary nurse. Why, then, is she showing up in Matt’s dreams?

She is strangely connected to him.

Sandra Owens was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her family moved to Santa Clarita, CA when she was seven years old. Sandra met her husband, Clint, her senior year of High School. They dated through her first year of college until they got married. Pregnant six months later, Sandra dropped out of college to become a full-time mom. Two kids later, he heart began to have irregular beats – maintaining a faster heart rate than normal. After being put on a myriad of medications, something happened. Her husband Clint came home one evening to find his home burned to the ground and Sandra, cradling their dead children. Sandra had a mental breakdown and was taken into police custody.

After the police station was destroyed by some unknown explosive device Sandra was committed to an institution. It was there that Ailis found her. Ailis let her know that she was one of a few special individuals who, across the world, had powers. The powers came from the heart; Sandra tapped into the source of the power earlier and the influx of energy friend her brain.

Ailis and Sandra escaped the institution, but the dark man tracked them down quickly. He attacked and killed Sandra.

Sixteen Hundred years ago, a man by the name of Eunapious, took two books – the Book of Power and the Book of Prophecy – and fled to Ireland. There, he established an order whose sole purpose was to prepare for the day when the Twelve Hearts of Power would reappear at the same time and the dark man would come. Sometime later, a great fire destroyed the monastery. In the fire, both Eunapious and the Book of Power disappeared. Remaining members of his council kept the order in tact, preparing for generations. The council is composed of twelve men. They direct the order and keep the prophecies.

The council met its end when the dark man attacked the monastery. The monastery had been hidden from the dark man’s site, guarded by a power that could destroy him if needed. When he attacked, they, as a last resort, unleashed the power – killing everyone there – but destroying the dark man.

Rich Luke was raised in Los Angeles, California and has been a reporter for the local newspaper since he graduated from college. He recently wrote an obituary on one of the most disturbing deaths he had ever seen and just as it seems he might be able to escape the memory of the creepy incident, Matt comes strolling into his office asking to know everything there is to know about Cedric Grimes’ death.

Detective Johnson joined the LAPD shortly after graduating from UCLA with a BS in Criminal Psychology. After working Robbery for four years, Alex was promoted to homicide. Making detective another two years later, he gained media attention and garnered awards after solving the “LA Crucifix Murder,” the case in which he lost his partner.

After solving several other high profile cases through the years, Alex was promoted to Lieutenant and promoted to Lead Detective after Detective Cedric Grimes retired from the force.

Patric, the self-appointed head of the council, grew up in Ailis’ shadow. Patric tried harder, studied more, practiced longer, but never had the natural ability he saw Ailis wasting. Patric was a believer from the beginning and always worked to be the best. After years, he assumed a place on the council and became the chess-player – moving pieces around a board.

When Ailis returned with Matt, he was suspicious and put Matt’s ability to the test. He found that Matt appeared to be who Ailis said he was. Patric’s biggest issue with the council was how they were on the permanent defensive – never going after the dark man, but always running. He decided to rectify this by summoning the dark man to the monastery – to have Matt face him once and for all. The remaining members of the council disagreed and threw him out of the council room. Shortly thereafter, the dark man appeared and the security system was enabled, killing all of the people there.

The Creator is Phillip Sevy.

Phillip Sevy is the Creator.

Phillip was born and raised in California where, on a steady diet of comic books, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the late-90s boom of Teen Flicks (love you Freddie Prinze!), he deluded himself into thinking that he was talented enough to have a career in comic books and/or films (depending on which voice in his head was the loudest that day).

Then he got a degree in Finance.

Don't ask, he doesn't understand why, either. After a few years in finance, he really doesn't understand why. So now he's back in comics and movies.

The genesis for Heartless Dark came in December 2002 in Kingsport, TN. He'd tell you how it came about, but that would ruin important parts of the story. He spent the next year outlining the story, ending up with a 168-page tome. Then he put it on a shelf for 6 years until the Suit asked him about doing an online comic. He dusted it off and retooled it, and, with the help of the majorly talented Architect and Suit, it's finally coming to fruition.

And all those images that have plagued him for years and years can finally see the light of day.

Dominic Rael - also known as Suit.

His name is Dominic. People seem to like him because he is polite and rarely late. He likes to eat ice cream and really enjoys a nice pair of slacks. Years from now a doctor will tell him that he has an I.Q. of 130 and is what some people call very smart. Unfortunately Dominic never puts his mind to anything for longer than 25 minutes unless it has a wicked soundtrack, badass story, or crazy wicked art.

Throughout college Dominic could be seen watching "legally" downloaded episodes of his favorite anime and adult swim cartoons in many of his finance classes. It was rumored that he actually marathoned the entire Boondocks and Full Metal Alchemist series during finals week for a bet, Dominic neither confirmed nor denied this.

After college Dominic found himself in Utah with its weird liquor laws (excuse me miss, my long island only has tea in it) and mating rituals (you mean we have to get married first?) where he met the Creator. After seeing the Creator move the pen like a sword Dominic asked him if he would ever consider leaving the "lavish" lifestyle of being a finance analyst for comics. The conversation that followed would inspire a View Askew trilogy, 2 graphic novels, and the best damn webcomic that this internet has ever seen.

Alma Madsen is the Architect.

The one who designs, builds, and keeps the clock ticking.

Alma can read, write, and do some minor arithmetic. He is a web developer by trade, and a mechanical engineer by training. Or at least he will be in a few more years. Alma spent his childhood in the wooded hills of Grass Valley, California, sketching flying tanks for the military and booby-trapping the playground after lunch. Later he turned to the rhythm and roar of heavy indie rock as a guitarist/vocalist/songwriter, which eventually landed him in college.

Then one day, out of the blue frozen sky, came an email from the Creator:

Hey I got this comic idea I want to do. Its a story I wrote back in the day and I think it's ready to hatch. Maybe you could help somehow, or do something if you wanted, eh?

So the Architect began plans for the sweetest graphic novel project in the world! Alma hopes to graduate from college someday, but in the mean time, he colors comics and works the world wide web.
